West Seneca Strikers 2 Queenston 1

I wont be doing recaps on a regular basis like in the past, however I figured I would dust off the old laptop and recap the match last night.
Cannot argue the fact that Queenston has a huge home field advantage, and on a weekday makes it even more difficult for opposing teams to head north. WSS showed up with 10 guys and Id say about 10 minutes in we finally fielded 11. Queenston started with 2 subs and eventually gained a third. The pitch was in a little rough shape but the game must go on, lines were almost invisible and the ground was rock hard. First half WSS got an unusual goal as the Q keeper I believe miss handled the ball as he bounced it twice and the second time was determined about 2 minutes after the fact that the ball did cross the line. Q came at us hard throughout the match 1-0 at half. The second half got a little chippy but thats to be expected in an elimination game. WSS would go up 2-0 with a great play and beat the keeper cleanly. Q would make things interesting with about 20 to go in the match as they hit a beautifully placed ball to the side netting, cant remember but I think he got in alone on me. Q got a huge gust of wind in there sails as they continued to attack one right after another. Having no subs caught up with WSS as 2 players cramped up and had to stop play. The ref gave Q a golden chance with no time remaining awarding them a PK. The player stepped up and hit it wide and the ref called the game there. It was a great game on both sides of the ball, I would like to wish Queenston good luck the rest of the way in the Championship Division.

Adam's recap is extremely fair; from the Queenston perspective, we think we lost this game in the first half. Perhaps we just assumed we'd take control and get our goals due to the 10 man start, or the fact that we had 3 subs, or whatever it may be. The result was a really flat home side that actually had to withstand a few waves of pressure by the Strikers in the first 20 minutes or so. In retrospect, had we played a hungrier first half, we may have come away with a desired result, but who knows. Queenston dominated the second half in part that we had no other choice but to do so, and due to the tired legs from the opposition. This is not to take anything away from the Strikers; despite the fact that they were wearing down late in the game, they played really hard throughout and earned the victory. I think their defense as a whole played smart and organized, and Jamie Tyrell really did it all offensively...he seemed to be in dangerous midfield spots all game and worked the ball up to Marino and Mammoliti for some decent chances (Especially in the first half). I was talking to Marino right after the PK was rewarded with no time left and he thought from our spot on the field that it looked like the correct call, despite a horrendous point in the match to make such a gutsy call. But the PK was missed anyway so perhaps fate had already been decided by the powers outside the 22 players on the pitch. Good luck to the Strikers in the next round, it was a spot well earned.
