Devils 2 HazBenz 2

Post  cdubbz731 on Mon May 09, 2016 7:09 am

Devils showed with 15, HazBenz 14.

Tough to field ur true team on Mother's Day as both teams seemed to be missing quite a few players.
Typical a Devils HazBenz game has a scuffle or two, but it appears we are too old for fights and would rather go get a beer with one another after.

1st Half
Devils had the wind at our back the 1st half, seemed to play in our favor the first 10-20 mins as we had some chances but couldn't seem to finish. Marcus Campbell played net today and made 3-4 highlight reel saves to keep HazBenz's off the board. Roughly half way through 1st half Shawn Powers placed a nice corner kick to the head of Ryan Acanfora who was able to head it in from 6 yards out far post. 1-0 Devils. As we tried to text an update to the good Devils who stayed at home with wives/moms... Devils buried a ball in their own net, from a low cross that our center mid kicked in our net. 1-1.

2nd half, not too many dangerous chances from the Hazbenz throughout this half. Devils had a few chances but their defenders and keeper seemed to be in the right place at the right time, getting just enough of the ball or parking the bus in front to deflect almost every shot we took. Some may say the game was a little chippy, but I think it was some pretty good game, hard tackles that were called one way but then 5 mins later the exact same play and no call. EH... what can you do. Appx. 5 mins left in game a set piece from Hazbenz went bouncing around in the 18 and their fwd was left wide open, (from my angle looked way offisdes) he was in on net alone with no1 around him, placed the ball past Marcus Campbell. Head Ref decision on this one and he couldn't make up his mind bc we all seemed to stop once we saw how wide open and behind us he was. AR said a guy held him on, we talked it out and Ref said it was a good goal. Devils were obv not happy with the call/ non call. 2-1 HazBenz.
Devils pushed forward and tried to even it up. With less than a minute, Matt Chase was able to beat 3 guys with some nice moves, played a long ball to Chris Wzontek who one timed flicked to a streaking DJ Cook who was able to place the ball under the goalies arm and into the net to tie at 2-2 with probably 10-15 seconds left to play.

Typical Devils cant finish chances. Devils now 1-0-1. off to Walden Ponds next Sunday for GWB, Best of luck Hazbenz..... cheers.
