Roos FC 2 FC Yemen 2

Cold and windy at Lakawanna as both teams walk away from that game probably believing they should have two more points in their pockets. FC Yemen had 1 sub while we had 4 then three with injury. A thrilling finish to this one kept it entertaining for Rogue and Elite waiting to play after us. Onto the recap.

Coming into this game we expected to get both Skrzypczyk and Gandt to appear for the first time this year and we got 1 outta 2 in Skrypt. I'll more then take that. Though we were without key defender Garrett Rehner we felt better about our game vs Rogue then that scoreline indicated. Sure shipping 6 goals makes us look leaky but honestly we've been truly beaten by solid non weather goals just 3 times. We've been looking for more up top and we found that yesterday.

The first half saw a back and forth affair with FC Yemen comeing out strong while we finished the half on the front foot. One trouble spot we have needed to improve on is our defense on set pieces and FC Yemen earned their first of the game on such a play. Its far too easy when we leave not one but two men unmarked inside 10 yards from our goal. They easily finished a simple FK cross into the box to make it 1-0. I think we made some smart adjustments on the fly. Greco moved to more of an attacking role with N. Sammarco sitting slightly behind him and Reid. Skrypt then roamed the mid and that seemed to work well. We also pressed a little higher up the field with our outside backs attempting to cut off their outlets on quick counters. They love to move the ball quick so we tried to limit them. We evened up at 1 with a simple pass to Skrypt in the middle of the field he then launched a deep ball over their ball line that Reid corralled, fended off a defender and hammered home. This is basically the typical Reid goal description. Both sides had players make fantastic stops to keep the game level. A FCY defender slide in to stop a Reid brace while Skrypt made a box to box run to slide in and deny a point blank chance for FCY. Half came level at 1-1.

We sorta expected FCY to come out early and push hard in the second half. But overall it remained back and forth throughout the game. Our run of crappy goal luck continued with Yemen's second goal. They basically just sent a ball into our 18 from the midfield that deflected high off Kyle Ernst and the wind then took over Greg, who also slipped on the play from the redirection. Sorta summed up oh the balls seemed to be bouncing for us this season. Credit to the guys though as we shook it off and pressed and probed for an equalizer. As the half wore on FCY tried to slow the pace with some gamesmanship along with some actual injuries. Gotta give credit to the center here who correctly added on time for it. In that weather it wouldn't have been a surprise for them to just let the 90 go and call it despite the stalling tactics but our ref crew yesterday was grade A all the way around I thought. Just as it seemed like the goal we deserved would evade us and drop us to 0-3 deep in stoppage we found our second. Travis Hicks chased down a loose ball and centered to Skrypt. He finds Reid at the top of the box who turns and hits James Knapp on a run from his LB position to the back post. Knapp shields off a defender and slide home the equalizer. I was ready for the whistle but both teams kept their hearts in their mouths with chances to steall all three even after the extra time goal. But in the end both teams walk away with a point, pretty fair considering.

Great game by FC Yemen. Taha is a great manager and guy. Their squad is solid all around and will do well in premier. No issues at all. Good group of guys. Best of luck to them moving on.

Today I sit more encouraged about this group. Hicks and Knapp both really played great yesterday. Weiss and Clay filled in admirably for Rehner. Looking forward to our next test vs Yemen Elite. Will be nice to be at home for a change as well.
