FC Aftershock 1, Dutch 3

Post  dpatterson on Mon Jul 11, 2016 9:20 pm

Game was played at Hamburg High School. FC Aftershock started the day with 19 available but by game time only 12 actually made it. Dutch had anywhere from 14-17 guys it seemed like, although a few didn't appear to play too much.

Aftershock started slow and gave possession to Dutch right away. Within the first 10 minutes Dutch worked the ball through the middle to a forward who I believe one touched it with his left foot off a bounce on the top of the 18 that found the inside netting. 0-1. Aftershock eventually settled in and played defensive all game, looking to go for a counter attack whenever the opportunity presented itself. With 10 minutes or so remaining in the half, Dan Legge punted the ball past half to Patterson. He played it to Brandon Sullivan who played it right back. Patterson walked in on goal and slotted it far post. 1-1. It would remain that way until halftime. Aftershock thought to themselves that they could pull this off and come away with a W. The plan was to work the ball on the counter attack and push numbers forward to try to get another goal or two.

Second half started with possession going back and forth. 10 or so minutes in, a miscommunication between Aftershock back line and Legge led Dutch to poke the ball into the empty net. 1-2. Five minutes later, Patterson was played in alone on goal. Looked up and saw the Dutch goalie approaching and tried to hit it over him into the empty net. Dutch goalie got his finger tips on it and it ended up hitting bottom of the crossbar and out. Dutch started to gain a lot of possession at this point and Aftershock began to tire. Dutch would eventually get a third when a player received the ball around the 18, made a move or two and then put it in the net. 1-3. Aftershock would come close again before the end of the game but the goalie made the save. As the final whistle blew, the final was 1-3.

The "Definitely Not Your Game of the Week" was a lot closer than the scoreboard showed. Aftershock feels they should've come out with at least a Draw if not the W.

Best of luck to our "Frenemies" the rest of the year as they are locked into the playoffs and have a lot of skill on their team.

We aren't "officially" eliminated yet but  a lot of variables need to happen for us to squeak in at 6th place. It all starts next week again Lasalle as we continue on in our brutal July Schedule.
