Devils 2 Lasalle 3 in 2OT... or will it stand? Empty Devils 2 Lasalle 3 in 2OT... or will it stand?

Post  cdubbz731 Mon Aug 01, 2016 6:39 am

Devils showed up around 545 with 16 deep. missing a few key pieces due to vacations (who schedules vacations around BDSL DIVISION 3 playoffs? amirite? and a birth of a child.
Lasalle showed up with 9 players and 1 which appeared to be "Joe Soccer"... more on Joe Soccer later.

1st half started with Lasalle down 2 men. Devils had the game in their hands and decided to take that extra touch/pass when it was not needed, couldn't put one by the stand in keeper. Every chance Lasalle had, they would destroy the ball out of bounds to kill time until their two other players showed - walking to every throw in like they were walking down the aisle for a wedding ceremony. Do I blame them since they finally fielded a team of 11+ for the first time in 5-6 games?! guess not, but really threw off any momentum Devils had.
They ended up with 12 + Joe Soccer. As I have said all year, we cant put together much within the 18, every1 on the team thought we could do more than what was needed to score instead of just scoring. Lasalle had 1 decent opportunity all half. 45+ in to the 1st half, their fwd was able to somehow dribble across the field passed 3 Devils and slide one passed Richie for a 1-0 lead.
Halftime
Devils weren't happy about the first half results and came out pretty strong. I cant keep count of how many corner kicks we had or how many times their keeper came out to clear a pass inside the 18. If they had a normal sized field, IMO Lasalle would have had trouble with the Devils getting in behind them for breakaways. too many times did it end up at the top of 18 in the keepers stomach sliding out. Not sure of exact timing but Matt Chase was able to get in on net saved by keeper, off the sweeper going in far post where their right back swung and miss hit a clearing attempt directly into their own Net. Credit Matt Chase with the G but others may see it as an Own goal. 1-1 we stay and go to OT.
1st OT
Lasalle found an unmarked player backside from a cross which our defender misjudged a header and it fell to his feet, trapped and passed it back to the near post to a screened Richie. 2-1 Lasalle. Moments later, another sloppy play lead to 3-1 Lasalle with 5 mins left in 1OT. Not much happened there on out.
2nd OT
Devils made some adjustments with players pushing who usually play defense and vice versa. Devils were able to find left footed Adam Meyer on the side who crossed it to Chris Wzontek for the header into the near post side netting from 6 yards out. Devils had momentum big time as Lasalle seemed to just try and hold on. Devils had a few chances just go over, failed cross attempts. score would stay 3-2 Lasalle. Good clean game, best of luck next week... or wait.....

Now to Joe Soccer. Like I said above. Devils showed with a good 15-16 strong (16 showed as game started) and Lasalle has struggled with numbers for the past 2 months. Devils walking up noticed that they had maybe 5? guys around 550 and we wondered if we would even have a game. Lasalle said they'd have 12-13 for sure. so we started counting numbers every few minutes to notice that there was a random player on their side, different jersey (spallers), different socks and shorts (they were red, Lasalle is yellow and black) as the rest of the team. Like finding "Where's Waldo" with 5 people on the page. It was obvious that something was up. He was the 2nd guy out there warming up and did look a little suspect to what was going on. Ankur was our HR today and played with the Spallers back in the day (or still does not sure) He knew right away that Joe Soccer wasn't a member of the Lasalle team. Ankur walked over and asked what was up prior to captains.
Ankur - "what are you doing, you don't play for this team"
Joe Soccer - "I know, but today I am"
Ankur- "No your not"

During captains, Ankur made it clear that he knew they were trying to play with an illegal player, but said "do what you want, we all already know" Their captain just shook his head as if "I'm caught". Lasalle obviously tried to pull one over on the BDSL and the Devils. If it weren't for Ankur saying something he would have played. There was an attempt to field and illegal player, but I am surprised and also am NOT surprised at this. Surprised bc many, if not all of the Lasalle team has played in BDSL before on Niagara/Spallers obviously so they know that you cant just bring someone on whenever you feel like it. Secondly, not surprised bc its known they have had attendance issues and why not try to bring someone on to help that. Joe Soccer stayed laced up for a good 20-30 mins into the game but then realized he's not playing and left the bench and field all together I think.

Devils were not out played today, we gave away 3 goals to Lasalle and Lasalle was "who we thought they were! That’s why we took the damn field! Now, *hits microphone* if you want to crown them, then crown their a$$! But, they are who we thought they were, and we let them off the hook!" _ RIP Dennis Green

As for now, good luck to those still playing next week, for us DEVILS, crack a beer and celebrate a good season. Cheers BDSL... signing off til next season.

Seems like that is something that should be punished. It doesn't matter that the player never played, they attempted to do it, and had every intention on following through had it not been for the ref. That is a garbage move. If you had a different ref, that player would have played. How can you be certain all of the other players were on their roster? I can only remember one time this year where the refs actually checked everyone in. Most of the time they just collect all of the passes and leave it at that. Not saying everyone is cheating, but this shows what could happen.

right? I mean teams do forfeit bc of lack of player cards and/or rosters..... I guess we wait and see. I know Managers get reds for letting players play that aren't suppose to.

I've never considered responding to a post on the forums before but since Devils seem to need to pout about their loss yesterday I made an account and thought I might as well clarify the game summary.

In regards to "Joe Soccer", I'll keep it short and sweet. So called "Joe Soccer" never played. Clarification can be given to the board on what actually happened if deemed necessary, not the masses.

Lasalle was down 2 players for the majority of the first half. Two additional players showed up about 30 mins in and the 12th showed up shortly after. In addition to not having subs, three of Lasalle's main defenders were playing injured (broken toe, pulled quad, and strained knee). Even with all of this the Devils did not have the game in their hands. They had momentum early and a few more chances than preferred in the beginning of the first half because Lasalle was down players. There was some chances but only one real threatening shot on Lasalle which was saved on the goal line by a field player. All other shots were overall handled well by stand in keep and full-time keeper once he showed up. Towards the end of the first half Lasalle was starting to hit their stride because of the late players. We were starting to beat the Devils on the wings with speed and getting chances on crosses in. Beating the sides with speed continued for the majority of the game and we would have easily had 1 or two more if we could have gotten bodies on the ball in the box. Their goalie had a great game and made some incredible saves!

Half

Devils had approximately 5-7 corner kicks with two of them resulting in soft headers that were stopped on the goal line. These were mainly a result of Lasalle not having the speed on D with the injuries. The corners were some of Devils best chances in the half and overall not that threatening. The own goal was every bit of an own goal and had little to do with a Devils player. Matt Chase was streaking down the center with two Lasalle players flanking. I managed to beat him to the ball in an effort to clear but the clear hit the other flanking Lasalle player. This bounced toward the keep who tried to punch it out but went directly towards myself again. With a quick bad touch i put some spin on the ball that resulted in it bouncing in front of the net and the miss hit by another Lasalle player put it in the net. Also, I'd like the assist to count towards my stats for a total of 1 assist on the season.

Unfortunately OT

Lasalle was volunteering to flip a coin to call the game but Devils weren't interested. Bad choice on their part.

Got a bit chippy toward the end but overall I thought it was a hard fought clean game with both teams giving it there all and the best team won. End of story. Although, apparently Devils don't care if they were outplayed. They are trying to find a way to "win" even if they couldn't do so on the field.

They should get punished, but the league's twitter just posted that they are playing Dutch. So, apparently it doesn't matter what they tried to do.....(or might have actually done)

I'd highly suggest clarification be given.

first of all, ET, way to not put ur real name out there...
Secondly.... pout? there is absolutely not one ounce of pouting. I did a recap from the Devils point of view as I have all season. IF you wanted to respond or post your own, feel free as u just did and seems like your a little sour we pointed out you tried to cheat. I didn't pout one bit. I said we gave the game to you.
You tried to play an illegal player yes? yes that's correct. So if there is punishment for trying to cheat, especially D3 then u deserve it. No different than a Premier team trying to pull one over.

Lasalle had some good chances, but not merely as many as the Devils had. like I said, we couldn't finish in the 18 where ur keeper was all over the 18 box.

I wouldn't say anything got chippy, no cards were shown and its a hard played playoff game.

We never would end a game via coin flip.

so why don't u go ahead and clarify what you were "trying to do" yesterday. i'll wait.

My apologies, didn't know you needed to track me down. ET= Eric Tower. You can phone me at home if you would like.

Meh I wouldn't go with sour, I just saw your recap as more one sided than the typical one sided recaps on the forum and thought a response to your strong accusations would be appropriate. I am just a peon and in no way speak for the team. "Clarification can be given to the board on what actually happened if deemed necessary, not the masses." This can be done with the correct representatives through the appropriate channels and not on the forum with you baiting me to defend my team with your accusations. I am just a team member that doesn't appreciate the Lasalle name being dragged through mud.

Again, I would argue that "gave the game" is misleading. The ball was not set on the goal line for us to tap in. I believe it was a hard fought clean game with both teams having their chances. Agree to disagree on the amount, we finished our hard fought chances.

I have not written on the forums in a long time, I run the Devils squad and thought I'd chime in. In no way did we complain about the circumstance durring or after the game...we were just angry that a team would attempt it, because it's lame, cheap, and disrespectful to all the teams that play fair week in week out. They attempted to do it, the ref cought them prior to the game, end of story. If it was any other ref, not so sure it would have been called out...even though we noticed it fairly quick. If we tried that, I'd expect to be dragged in the mud if cought...and I'd expect some sorta punishment from the league. This all falls on your team manager, not the random player on Lasalle. It was a good game...best of luck moving forward.
