Two teams with different styles battled to a 0-0 draw tonight to start off the season. Mindful of past games against Meerkats where we've given up a lot of goals (they beat us 6-1 last year), we came in determined to not get caught out like that this time. Meerkats were much sharper than us knocking the ball around in possession but we did a good job keeping their shots away. We tried to hit them on the counter, Brandon Ripstein just missed with a powerful header before halftime. The Reds looked a little sharper on the ball in the second half and created a few chances, but Meerkats again had more possession. They made it interesting at the end, Rob Laskowski was called on to make a big save or two, and Chris Duerr almost stole one for us on the other end.

Early season games are rarely pretty, sometimes it's about putting in the workrate and getting stuck in before you're all sharp enough on the ball to get things moving. We'll take a point on a big field against a team that beats us every season. Thanks to Zach and Meerkats for helping get this game moved to their field during the week after ours was shut down due to the soggy conditions.
