Yet another beautiful day on the perfect pitch that is Walden Pond Park. Marksmen Barracks were stocked full, totaling 19 (18 after injury) and Delco showed with 14. The touch lines were extremely faded, as the referee pointed out to us beforehand, so we had a heavy reliance on the AR's, one of which was just dying to tell me that my Nike jersey I wore was named after the Greek Goddess of Victory. That was probably the most observant thing he did all game to be honest, because he did not do too hot of a job, neither did his colleagues.

Delco start off quick and were firing on all cylinders in their attacking third. Their forward who plays for Canisius college (fact checkers, anyone?) was a great striker. Made some smart runs off the ball. Their first true opportunity came off a corner, Hastings palmed the ball into traffic and was up again to make a quick leg save on the rebound. Later on, a free kick right on top of the Marksmen box was driven by 88 and skimmed the last man in the wall, deflecting it on goal and was palmed over. The center ref was very... spotty with her calls. Some were pretty smart calls, others made no sense whatsoever. Anyways the Marksmen back line looked like our high school glory days and was controlling a decent amount of the pressure (we called it the bamboo defense). Later on in an unfortunate collision Mike Ciraolo got an elbow to the forehead, resulting in probably ~1.5 inch gash over his eye. So naturally Mike puts a piece of tape over it and tried wrapping it up to conceal the blood and run back in. Thankfully his sister lives nearby and is a nurse so she took care of it, but his game was over (texted the group message postgame saying he gets the stitches out on friday and is prepared for anything after that).

Second half, Delco really started piling on the pressure. They switched their keepers, maybe the first half keeper got bored because we did not test him too much. there was a span where Delco had about 5 corners in a row, one of them found a near post flick across goal, finding the foot of an oncoming Delco striker, who fortunately for us directed the ball into the path of Hastings' feet, off the goal line and out. After the pressure subsided a bit, another through ball was played in and somehow slipped through our back 4, finding a striker jonny on the spot, who kicked it into the face of Hastings (skimmed my cheek actually). Things seemed to start winding down around the 80th minute, and in some bizarre play, Josh Smith our local rugby player, must have done something bad in our box and caused a penalty. I honestly don't even remember how it happened because it was very soft. Mind you tons of tackles both sides of the ball were flying on the greasy Walden Pond pitch, and of all the fouls she called, this one was really one of the softer ones. You could even tell once she called it, it was right under her nose, but she delayed for about 15 seconds, fathoming the fact that she just called that a penalty. Anyway, Canisius forward steps up and makes absolutely no mistake on the penalty, perfectly taken. This miraculously lit a fire under the Marksmen arses, and within two minutes or so, we're holding possession in the Delco end, and Geoff Mencobello, our classy Italian, serves in a through ball that was sweeter than an Italian Port wine, and Dom Dragone got on the end of it and shoots it bottom corner. 1-1. That is how it ended with the winding down minutes seeing the Marksmen pushing through, the multiple subs benefitting the stamina of our XI.

Refs were very very questionable both sides of the ball. Delco are a classy group of guys and really quality as a team. Arguably one of the best teams we've faced in our existence as a club. Next game, we are attempting to reschedule our first week matchup against Cheektowaga, fingers crossed we get a set date.

entertaining write-up, as usual, sir

Honestly a lot of the play was in our half and my memory is down right pitiful. Also most of the guys on our team I have known for so long I could write a forum post on every single one of them (but I will spare the forum of that spam). But Dom is an interesting character. He is extremely quiet and I am lucky to get a smile or laugh out of him with my charismatic humor. but, his finishing is class and he is speedy as heck. He is the Crème Brûlée that goes with the Italian Port.

if you did a forum post introducing us to all the Marksmen...I would read it and probably enjoy it. But just ask Matt Waddington--I have no life except to pet imaginary Schrodinger-esque cats
