TriTown 1 Buffalo Celtic 1

Post  Fritz on Wed Jun 14, 2017 2:47 pm

This was a make up game from the early season rain storms played at TriTown soccer fields in Elma (next door to Sahlens Sports Park). The game started out going back and forth...Celtic attempting to build up an attack and TriTown throwing some long balls down the field to one of their many speedy players. To say this team has speed is an understatement and was very evident on their goal as the right winger left our French import defensemen on the ground and ran straight to goal. He buried a short side goal with precision and pace that left me dropping a few choice words at myself (quietly of course). Shortly after, we started a build up out the back that ended after 6 or 7 pinpoint passes with Brandon Voyer finishing a beautiful pass from Kevin McKenzie across the goal mouth. When we settled in and played smart soccer we were able to overcome the overall team speed of TriTown. Both teams had chances, maybe 55-45 in favor of TriTown in the second half. Chris Griffiths and who ever the beast of a sweeper they have are the difference makers on that team. We had numerous chances to spring free on net only to have this tank come flying in to shut it down. Shame on us for continuing to go right at him let we did. Chris was all over the midfield, controlling the play for them. Celtic, again played a tough game and only is missing that final touch needed to put these games away. The refs did a pretty good job staying with play though it was a pretty clean game so no need for them to insert themselves which is good. Dillon Olivieri and Richie Brinkman were again the center pieces of our attack in the midfield, hustling all over the field to win balls. Now that the transfer window is open, we will be looking to wheel and deal for that 1 or 2 final pieces needed. On the upside, we have already scored more goals this year than all of last year so, that for now is the first win of the season for us.
