On a day that would of been Christopher Peppers 46th birthday, Buffalo Celtic took on the Crusaders at Ken East on what turned out to be decent weather conditions. After watching 1888 beat FK Bosnia and than watching as they, FK Bosnia, attacked the referee crew which led to at yeast one post match red card we were ready to honor our dear friend with our first W of the year. Celtic came to the game in full force with a full squad and Crusaders started with only 9. Determined to get the W, Celtic played our best game of the year by working the ball around the field until the opportunity presented itself for a shot on goal. About 10 in, I think, Celtic was on the board with a nice finish from Armond June and followed it a short time later with a second off a header from Josh Fritz. Crusaders than gain 3 more players giving them now 1 sub. Right away they came on the attack which led me to make a stop on a break away from one of their speedsters. Celtic finished out the half with a third goal on a Voyer rocket backside upper 90. About 15 minutes into the second half we scored our fourth and final goal to secure the win off a great individual effort from Kevin McKenzie. We did have to hold on against a strong attack from the youthful and very fast moving Crusaders to secure the shutout. A huge game by a number of guys on the team, most notably from Kevin McKenzie (Goal and Assist) and Armond June (Goal). The other goal scorers were Josh Fritz and Brandan Voyer (Goal and Assist). Richie Brinkman, our energizer bunny of the midfield added an assist with one half of our French Connection Clement Dousteyssier the other assist. it was a complete effort that we need to carry on through the rest of the season in an effort to make the playoffs. Happy Birthday Pep, this win was for you!!

Kudos to our ref and linesman for discussing a potential penalty kick. A collision happened inside our 18 between two Crusaders and Rolfe Freidenberg was quick to clear the ball. Initially the ref called a penalty on Rolfe as he was right there when the collision happened but the linesman went to speak to the referee and told him what he saw. What he saw was two, very quick, crusaders got to the ball before Rolfe could but collided leaving a clear path to the ball for Rolfe. A drop ball was awarded instead. Kudos to the linesman for speaking up and kudos to the referee for listening to him as he had a better view of the play. Sometimes we are quick to jump on the referees, in some cases its well deserved, and don't compliment them when a job is well done. So well done referees!
