WNY United 2, Cheektowaga 0
Another beautiful night for soccer, though surprisingly cool out for late June. The Reds showed up with 5 subs, Cheektowaga had 1. We're usually pretty similar teams, I think every meeting was a tie until last year. Cheektowaga had defenders sit back and try to boot it long to their forwards, hoping to catch a bounce, but we were waiting for this. They had plenty of possession first half but not many shots to show for it. We opened up on the counter a few times and we thought Nate Dutro had put us ahead but it was called back by the center ref for offsides (we were missing a linesman tonight). 0-0 at the half. We were pretty confident that this was going according to plan and we just had to keep hitting away at their defense as they were getting tired. More possession meant more chances, a Pete Ruocco shot looking to go in was actually blocked on the line by our forward. The Reds finally broke through with about ten minutes to go, a Mike Biggane chip was tipped past the goalkeeper by Chris Duerr. United made it two not long after, Brandon Ripstein controlled and turned off a long Paul Dudkowski throw and fired it in with his left foot from around the penalty spot. Cheektowaga still has a lot of fight left in them. We're encouraged by two wins in a row and curious as to what we can do with the last month of games.
