To begin with I hope Matt makes a post about this as well. Starting two years ago in D3 I would read the forum weekly and always see his posts. Always interested in what he had to say about my team but didn't know when we would get to play each other. The game started late as a girls game was being played. We ended up kicking off around 8:15 or so. We had 15 and I believe they had similar numbers.

Game started with both teams feeling each other out. We had a good chance in the first five min that their goalie (who played an amazing game) ended up saving. Polonia looked to build out of the back field, get the ball to their CM who would play it out wide to their speedy strikers. On a few occasions Jamie or Chris jumped the short pass and was a second away from having a break a way which was thwarted. The game would settle down and Polonia would have an amazing opportunity inside the 18 where Brandon Guarino would block a shot, then Mark and then they hit a post and it went out. We were pretty luck to escape that. Jamie was wreaking havoc early on. Jared F sent him in on a nice through ball. Jamie took it inside the 18 and would normally finish it but decided to take one extra touch where a defender slid it away to a point where Jamie didn't have much of an angle. Maybe 5 mins later Jamie was at the outside of the box with the ball when a defender slid him cleats up taking him down. Torn AC joint in his shoulder...Jamie would leave the field but come back and play as well as he could with it. Game was mostly back in forth each team getting multiple chances. Jared Billica almost heading a corner in, then their strikers shooting at Guarino who made a ton of saves. Their MF beat most of our taller guys to the 50/50 balls. Their goalie made a specular save on Cunningham who drilled a ball low left. Goalie not only saved it but held on to it. 0-0 HT.

Did our HT speech and almost forgot the fruit my mother brings to the game for the team. Watermelon was great.

Start of the 2nd half was pretty much the same. Polonia wins a 50/50 ball in the midfield, move the ball around. We would take it away and move up quickly for a counter attack. Our goal came off a throw in to Joe Stogner who would find Dylan Cunningham right in the middle of the 18. Three guys on him, he would fake a turn, finally turn and shoot. The goalie got a piece of it but it trickled in. Boom 1-0. Kid has been on fire with 3 goals in the last two games, two a man down. After the goal we really let Polonia have the lions share of possession. With only 20 mins left after the goal we moved more guys back and counted on Jamie/Dylan/Colin/Chris to counter. Chris almost made it 2-0 chipping the goalie who came out. A defender was just quick enough to boot it out. (Chris will eventually score and when he does, watch out). Polonia had tons of chances that either us back four defenders would end up thwarting or Dylan would make a great save. Definitely deserves MOTM for our second shutout of the season.

Polonia is a very good team. Super quick on the wings but probably the most physical game we have had to play. While some were clean some were questionable. Sliding cleats up should never happen. Jamie will probably be out for 2 weeks. Minutes after that a guy went right through Jared Billica who was left on the field for a while. I had a guy go cleats up on a 50/50 ball in the second half which the ref would then inform me that he regret not calling... Good game either way as we move to 2-0-3.

Hey, Mitch, sorry I let you down by staying mute on this one.  At this point, all I have is:

--on Cunningham's goal, he received the ball with his back completely to goal.  No less and no greater than 180 degrees away.  So I, as the closest defender, was expecting a much less smooth turn-and-shoot maneuver than he was able to accomplish.  The unlucky aspect of that play was that the ball deflected off my inner thigh and into the corner.  GK Matt told me after the game that he had the initial angle of the shot lined up...even at the time, I knew as soon as it hit me that it likely wasn't a good thing that it did hit me.

--I'm pretty sure I'm the one who 'went through' Bilica.  If I'm thinking of the same play...that one was a pure 50/50, all contact was incidental, and I was actually surprised to see him stay on the ground for any amount of time...must have just caught him awkwardly, but there wasn't any knee-to-knee or anything--not sure what the exact contact was.  There was a 50/50 further upfield earlier in the first half where I took an elbow/forearm to the neck, so maybe call it even?  (your player apologized to me on that one, and as there was nothing malicious I had no problem with it)

--The sequence of rapid-fire shots we had from six yards out maybe ten minutes into the game was pretty hilarious.  There were either three or four shots, and I want to say it was...one saved by the GK, one saved off the line by a defender, the last one off the post, and maybe one other one in there saved either by your GK or a defender.  How one of those didn't go in is a mystery that will be pondered by some future Scott Hollander of Niagara University who stumbles across this game footage in year 2093.

--Apologize on behalf of the team for the AC joint injury...read your other recap and I'm glad he was able to get a half in against DSC

And...that about does it.  Good game once again and maybe/hopefully there can be a rematch sometime

I think you're pretty spot on with all of that, Jared Billica ended up talking about it later saying your collision was pretty accidental. Nothing serious. All in all I think the game was pretty good, competitive and friendly. No one could expect Cunningham to make a turn like that so if it did go off your thigh it was pretty unlucky/un-expecting. Good luck moving forward, hope to see you guys in the playoffs!
