In a steady rain that made the pitch very slick by the second half, Lakeshore advanced to the next round of the Wood Cup by handing visiting Division 2 newbies Amherst United a 4-0 defeat.

Although we were missing our sweeper and a key midfielder, that might not have made a difference as it was our defensive collapses which killed us in the end. By the second half, fatigue and a couple of injuries set in (our usual stopper turned sweeper for this game pulled a hammy while our female midfielder busted her knee brace, thus making it too risky for her to continue).

Excellent goalkeeping by Lakeshore's keeper, particularly in the first half when he made a HUGE point blank stop on our guy, William Du.

Am-U now readies for its home opener, Sunday against CS Italia at Gateway Longview. Best of luck to Lakeshore throughout the Wood Cup and the regular season.

Not ideal conditions, but we pushed through. We too were missing a couple of key midfielders.

Great officiating as well.

Good luck to Am-U the rest of the way.
