Thanks, Faress.
The game kicked off a little after 8 pm at Lewport High School. We started off fast putting pressure on Lakeside right out of the gate. A few minutes into the game Oliver Jackson got played in on a break and tried to round former Sharpshooters goalkeeper Adam Durst. Durst got part of the ball, but was unable to hang onto it. As I came in for the loose ball, Durst was able to dive back in front of it and make the save. Unfortunately for Adam, he caught a boot in the face and was cut open pretty bad. Sorry bud. This led to a lengthy delay while we waited for the bleeding to stop. The Sharpshooters controlled the majority of the first half and had numerous chances. Off of a free kick, Matt Campana served a ball across the box which missed a few guys in front of the net and fell to Ben Mozg at the back post. Ben's left footed shot hit the post and came out. Later in the half, Zack Schwartz had a chance at the back post, but was unable to settle the ball and find the open net. Brendan Lawler also had a header from the top of the 6 that unfortunately hit his shoulder and went wide. Lakeside had a few chances also, but I'm having trouble remembering them. Maybe Charlie can remember them. We went into half 0-0, but feeling confident.
In the second half, Lakeside controlled more of play. They had us on the back foot for most of the second half, but were unable to score. Lakeside got a free kick after Sharpshooters keeper Marcus Campbell was called for a handball just outside the box, but the free kick was well blocked. We had a breakaway when Jason Harris pressured a Lakeside defender, stole the ball and walked in on goal. Durst was able to force Jason wide and the ball rolled out the end line. Brendan Lawler also almost scored off of a rocket of a volley from 25 yards that smashed off the crossbar. Near the end of regulation, Pete Marlette hit an absurd bicycle kick that looked destined for the back of the net. The shot was looping perfectly, but Marcus was able to make a great diving save and push it over the bar. 0-0 heading to OT.
In the first overtime, Lakeside controlled a little more of play, but there weren't any great chances. The second overtime flipped and we controlled most of play, but weren't able to create any great chances either. We headed to penalties.
Brendan Lawler, Matt Campana, Jason Harris, RJ Grampp, Zack Schwartz, and Myles Taylor converted in the shootout for the Sharpshooters with some really well executed penalties. Marcus Campbell was able to save the 3rd and 7th Lakeside shooters to give the Sharpshooters the victory and our first Tehel Cup. The chance of the treble is still alive.
