Great White Buffalo 0 - Revolution SC 1
Another beautiful day for a soccer game. We were out at the Westwood Park turf field. Both sides had good numbers, with plenty of subs. The wind was blowing pretty hard from one end of the field to the other, which played some crazy tricks on the ball.
We started out with some good possession, but we were not used to playing on turf, and it showed throughout the game. However, we struck early. Matt Jankowski made a nice run up from his left-back position and found Andy Page alone in the center, just outside of the 18. Andy took a quick touch and placed a perfect left just outside of the keeper's reach. 1-0
There were plenty of chances on both sides, with both keepers coming up with some pretty big saves. One of GWB's best chances came off of a lucky bounce for them, after a miscommunication between Huber and Koeppel resulted in a 50/50 ball that floated over Frank's hands. It looked like it was going in, but then we received a luck break, with the ball hitting the inside of the post and bouncing back out. There were plenty of hard tackles, and some cheap shots thrown in. I still have no idea why I was the only one to receive a yellow card for my scuffle with a GWB player. I guess getting body slammed to the ground isn't worthy of a card (my actions were worthy of one, but that was just me getting a little heated from being thrown down). Cooler heads managed to prevail, barely. It was a hard fought game by both teams, and we might be seeing them again in August. Good luck to GWB the rest of the way.
Oh, and Revolution had a fantastic time at the park after the game, with a spread fit for a king and queen. It's always a great time when you can hang out with your teammates afterwards and just relax. And now, we really do get a week off (or two in my case).
