You couldn't ask for nicer soccer weather tonight. Both teams showed up with subs, which is always a bonus on a weeknight. Devils scored towards the end of the first half, got a touch past our side defender and sent in a low cross, it deflected off one of our guys right to their forward at the goal mouth. Unlucky for us on the deflection, but no excuse for not marking that guy. We had several good chances in the first half but the Devils keeper was as good as advertised and made some really nice saves. Second half we put the pressure on down the stretch but couldn't find an equalizer. A very frustrating evening for us. But for a cup game, I suppose the field was ready, we had enough people and no one got hurt, so it wasn't too bad.

Best part of a forum as you get to write on behalf of your teams POV.
Devils showed up with 14, we were suppose to have about 16-17 but guys kept dropping like flies for a variety of reasons. (shin splints, work, back home plowing trees or something like that....) we had to make a bunch of different positional moves. Reds had about 4-5 subs.

Nice day for a game, grass was super soft, but playable. Devils decided to go up hill the first half. The first 15 of the game the Devils pressed pretty good and seemed to be working well with a bunch of through balls either btwn defenders, over their defenders heads - which were managed well by clearing out of bounds or back to the Devils defenders. Marcus Campbell had a hell of a game up top and kept finding himself in the right position. Chase and Zach H. held up our center mid very well last night. Devils had about 3-4 good scoring chances in the first half, either just over, or goalie making good saves. Marcus Campbell found the back of the net when Chase beat two defenders- walked the line for a second and passed it, off defender to a waiting Campbell who pushed it home for a 1-0 lead maybe 30 mins in. Richie Weiand in net was outstanding per usual. He had 4 saves all game that easily could have changed the outcome. 1-0 half

2nd half started and things got a little chippy to start. Both teams played hard and possessed fairly well. Karl B and Marcus both had some good opportunities in the 2nd half again, but nothing found the back of the net. One yellow card per side, the 1st coming from, what I saw, ball first-hard tackle. The entire game there were a ton of hand checking and grabbing from the reds, but its part of the game. Zach H. had the ball in the corner and it was a good 20 second battle when their player came from behind and slide tackled Zach screaming he was elbowed. yellow was shown to Reds player. Reds didn't have many chances in the 2nd half but Devils never parked the bus until the last 5. Last 5 mins the Reds continued to push hard and tackle hard- to be expected. Ref did a great job for the most part controlling the game. Beers were had in celebration.

Would love to see Matt Marcinkiwiecz's POV of the game as he was there NOT drinking Ultra. attaboy.

Devils hold on for the 1-0 victory, another SO to Richie Weiand.
Appears we play Tesla in 3 weeks in the next round. Should be an interesting 2 Thursdays as we play back to back Wood Cup and League games VS them. Best of Luck Reds. see you in D2 next year. Wink

Yeah I think it was physical both ways - both teams gave as much as they took, both teams did their share of complaining about calls and non-calls, though few if any would've really affected the game either way. It was a pretty even game overall, Devils finished a chance and we didn't.
